Good question,

The big answer is...they don't. Burton currently has 12 men's models (not to mention women's and kids) in the $300-$400 range, and that is the bulk of the boards they sell. They have many more in the $400-600 range.

Also, Burton owns Forum, soooo, even more boards available in the lower price range.

Also, MSRP is not the same as price paid. Most of the highest priced boards (a rapidly shrinking market) sell for much less than sticker. These products are great for brand credibility, "We have a $1,500 board", more than actual sales.

But, it should be said that The oldest names in the sport:

Jake Burton, Tom Sims, Burt Lamar, Rob Morrow

deserve a ton of credit. Those guys and their brands took snowboarding from flex-less, edge-less, camber-less, sidecut-less planks, to very close to what we are still riding today. That all happened before a lot of the newer brands had ever produced a board.

Core snow-boarders remember and respect that, although some key-boarders (hehehe) do not. Along with that goes a little more cred and in some cases a slightly higher price.

their ability to market themselves caused them to sell out.

daddy jake was a pioneer, and he knew what was up. They were the first around. Him and Tommy Sims. Sims was Burton's follower. Then Jake sold his company and now its rn by money grabbing execs. Naturally, sims' design was kind of a ripoff, and thats why sims doesnt cost as much as the OG cambered burtons. First around...thats a pretty good advertisement, dont you think? yeah so do the guys who currently own burton

Man burton used to be OG. They created the Camber. but that doesnt mean they should price it higher. Nowadays, big companies like these are all flash, they're the ones who killed the westbeach classic, AND why all those little board brands started by young, starry-eyed shreds, every year wind up getting crushed. Burton is good. but you just go around the mountain and look at the little brats who walk around in their hype-beast gear with a burton custom, but spend all day pulling a falling-leaf down the hill...you wonder where the sport turned from genuine ability to pure style and showboating.

NOW guys like ED HARDY are frickin debuting sticks.

you hear about this? they debuted their new line of snowboards with guys in speedos. on a runway.

keep it real, man...keep it real!

because they feel that they can overprice their gear even tho it is no better than what everybody else has on the market
