I built a rail out of wood, and I put some particle board on top to make a little smoother, but it's still not that smooth so what do you think I should put on it should I put on wax or a varnish, or should I put something else on it.

Take the particle board off! That is a really hard thing to smooth out. The best thing to use is 3/4 ince Marine grade plywood. Put it in place, prime it, sand it, prime it again, then put polyurethane on it and it should be pretty smooth. If it's still not smooth, put bowling wax on it. That should give you a good rail.

I think you should just put some wax on your rail but, you should of just made a metal one to start with.
