Is it necessary to do an end-of-season wax on my snowboard?

I bought my board at Sport Chalet, and they offer 3 in season waxes and 1 end of season wax free with purchase. Is it really necessary to do an end of season wax? I only used the board for about 4 days during last season, since I bought it in April!

If it's free then you might as well get it. Waxing is not necessary at all, but it is a nice thing to do. The purpose of doing an end of season wax is too make sure the base is moisturized throughout the summer, then you scrape the wax at the end of summer and your base is nice and smooth. I would say get the wax because it's free.

Necessary depends on if you want your board to last. If you do, then yes it is necessary. Usually when you do the end of season wax you would put the wax on only and not scrap it off. This traps the moisture in the board and prevents it from drying out which can be bad bad bad. Then next season all you have to do is scrap it off and ride. If i were you, do the end of season wax.

No, it is not necessary. It is especially unnecessary for boards with extruded bases.
Waxing fills the surface pores and to some extent penetrates to internal pores of the base. If you keep your board in a clean environment (in a board bag or locked in a closet) then there really is no need for it. If you have a board with a sintered base and have it sitting out or plan to practice on it during off-season, then you may want to have it waxed to prevent dust and dirt from filling the pores.
Regardless, if you clean and wax the base before the beginning of the new season, your board will perform just fine.

It's not a bad idea to wax at the end of the season as it will help seal and protect the board for the summer months. and if it's free, why not..

if its free ya but if its not than it still is a good idea because through ought the summer it keeps the board moisturised so the base dose not dry out or gets cracked so it will keep the board healthier

1. ask the dealer, and/or,
2. subscribe to a snowboarding magazine.
