Why do most people new to snowboarding assume they have to have burton gear?

Burton isn't necessarily the best. Do your homework people? What type of terrain do you ride?

Check out Lib Tech, Gnu, Capita, Rome, etc.

I agree completely! Burton may be one of the most well known companies but I love my ride board and rome bindings. People should brush up on their boarding knowledge!

Because they only know that brand, so they drop its name so they can feel like they know what they are talking about.

I like Burton gear, but they are by no means the best. They are neck and neck with a bunch of other brands, many of which you listed.

As for Antwan, what an idiot:

"STOP being a hater. HAVE you ever ridden a burton custom. YEA I DIDNT THINK SO. Dont get mad b/c you cannot afford a burton."

Is he serious? He thinks if you don't ride Burton it is only because you can't afford it? And if you say they aren't they best you are hating because you are poor? What an idiot.

I can't stand people like him. Dumbass snowboard instructors who suck at riding but think they are so good because they got some 3 day certificate to teach people falling leaf.

I bet he is the guy who goes off the 60foot tabletops, but only lands 10 feet from the lip, and claims a 60 foot jump.

And yes, I HAVE ridden a Custom. It is one of my favorite boards, but guess what? I like the Gnu Riders Choice better. That board IS my favorite board.

And one more thing, if you have been riding it for 5 years, and it hasn't lost any of its pop, it means you are not riding very hard you idiot. A good board will hardly last a season riding it hard and going big. Even your favorite Burton boards.

Because they hear the most about it.

There's nothing wrong with owning Burton stuff. Just as long as you don't buy the top of the line stuff and don't know how to ride. I saw a kid at Blue Mountain, PA last week with brand spakin' new Burton '08 Cartels. Not the low-back's either. What is it, like $220? 230$?

And you know what? He couldn't ride 20 feet without falling, let alone turn either way. I'm not even sure if he knew how to stop. That really pissed me off. He can't even ride straight, and there are people who are ten times better than him rocking lower end bindings. I was helping to teach some of my friends how to board that day, and I told them, "don't become that guy. He can't ride at all, but he has bindings suited for advanced riders."

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Burton hater. I just think that their low end stuff is over priced, and their high end stuff is for people who actually know what their doing. In my opinion, they make some of the best stuff out there, if not THE best if you spend a decent amount. But it sickens me to see little rich kids riding (falling/sliding) on high end stuff. There's no reason to ride something that you can't use to it's potential.

I think the biggest threat from those four companies you named to Burton is Rome. Then Lib Tech. Rome's gaining a lot of popularity, but I hear their stuff is mostly for jibbing. Enlighten me if there's a more rounded or stiffer board they have.

By the way, I know the Cartel's aren't the highest up in their line. C60's or the Idiom's.

Burton do make very good products but they do attract the all the gear no idea types who see the Burton brand as almost like a fashion brand. This doesent help Burtons image with more hardcore riders but with anything that is really popular it will be disliked in the same intensity by others as well. You and i know that there are many other brands that are equally as good if not better. But i do give Burton credit for firstly being snowboard pioneers and secondly having a really good range of boards that cators for all riders. Most snowboard brands make boards primarily for male riders of an average build. Burton makes many products for women, kids, fat people, thin people, people with big feet etc. So i agree they arnt the best, but for many people they offer the best choice. Good luck with the riding.

Are you serious with that question, hmm lets see b/c burton is the most world renounded snowboard brand, b/c they have the most commericials on TV. Or maybe because they have the sickest team. Or maybe because jermey jones is like one of the best jibberz. Shawn white killz pipe and slopestyle. I agree that there are other great brands out there but they dont get enough advertisment, and people new to the sport dont know about the other companies. I would say that BURTON is UP THERE as far as being the best company, and now they own forum. STOP being a hater. HAVE you ever ridden a burton custom. YEA I DIDNT THINK SO. Dont get mad b/c you cannot afford a burton.

Because Jake Burton is one of the founding fathers of snowboarding and his snowboard company and teams continually work their butts off to progress the sport and produce the best gear and apparel for everyone. How many other companies have an awesome track record like Burton's? How many companies can say they've had most of all the leading snowboarders and legends riding for them? That's cause Burton freakin' rocks!!!

I call it ignorance. I worked in a shop in Idaho for four years and one in Arizona for 1 year. I have never/would never buy a burton board. They are well-known/over-priced crap. I ride Gnu because they have better quality equipment than burton.

Just like a lot of other products out there, name means everything to some people. I personally do not like burton at all. There bindings blow.

OMG! yes i'm glad i'm not the only one who feels this way. Burton, while it has a great story, does not make that good of products. I just wish more people would do more research before they bought over priced products.

because burton is for rich people who think they are special, personally I would rather break my leg then ride a burton board. I know alot of people who have ridden them and they dislike them alot. there are a ton of other brands that I think make much better prducts, and they dont cost millions of dollars. burton is over priced desinger crap. the board dosent make the rider, the rider makes the board.
